In Memoriam
Honee Daniels
Rochester, NY
Honee didn’t meet strangers, only friends. For her, that meant she made friends with everyone and anyone who came into her life. What they got in return was a woman who was always willing to help, whether it was helping kids with their homework or assisting seniors when they needed a hand. She also could, with enough time and the right palette, make anyone look like an A-list actor who would fit in the superhero and fantasy movies she loved. To Honee, everyone was a potential star and she made you feel like you were one.
Serenity Birdsong
Murfreesboro, TN
“The trouble of life both big and small / seem to fade as the obstacles falls. / Now we embark on a new adventure / one with which we may joke and gesture. / But all in all, that which I hope most / is that I spend time with those I love, before I’m a ghost.”
Serenity's kindness and laughter on campus brought people together, advocating for her university’s trans+ community as the vice president of MT Lambda. She built connections and her outward unconditional love filled the spaces she moved in. She always created places where everyone felt like they belonged.
Adela Vázquez
San Francisco, CA
Originally from Cuba and expecting to be a teacher, Adela became a cornerstone of trans+ activism in San Francisco instead. While she became notable performing for years in the local drag circuit, her real impact came from bringing awareness of AIDS through Proyecto ContraSIDA por Vida. Her work, along with her outgoing personality, led to her becoming the subject of several documentaries and a graphic novel. More recently, she extended her attention to start the support group 50 and Fabulous for older trans women.
“It’s a lot of fun. I found community again. It’s so fantastic. It’s a group that has no form. Sometimes we talk; sometimes we eat; sometimes we cry. I don’t think transgender people over a certain age have a lot of representation… So now they have a place.”
San Coleman
Athens, GA
San was known by those who loved them as Strawberry. Much like their nickname, they were both sweet and added a lot of flavor to every party they attended. They loved being around people and people loved being around them in return. Some remember them as a "silly sweetheart." Others recall being in their life was like always being in an adventure. They brought so much wild joy to both their mother, their younger sister, and their incredibly large extended family.
Zeta Muirgen Seraph Haber
Boston, MA
Zeta led three different but very interconnected rich lives. They studied psychology in college and dedicated their work researching trauma-related disorders and focused on trans+ issues. Their politics were informed by their faith, rallying against the evils of capitalism and racism. To unwind, they delved into perfecting their art and dancing while playing D&D and listening to K-pop with their partner. They loved and were loved by those closest to them, all of whom were grateful for the time spent together.
